Baby Breastfeeding

Medela Pump in Style Review

Was Your Decision to Breastfeed Easy or Hard?

For me the decision was easy, I was 19 when I got pregnant with my first child. I didn't have a ton of money and knew that breastfeeding offered my baby what nature had intended, besides the fact that it didn't cost anything. My mom breastfed my younger sisters, and I was exposed to breastfeeding. When I had my daughter, I remember the doctor's office and hospital both pushed more towards formula. In fact, I got a huge case of free formula.

I chose to breastfeed for the following reasons:

  • Cost
  • Convenient
  • No Prep
  • Healthier for baby
  • Provided appropriate nutrients
  • Provides antibodies
  • Easier to digest
  • Plus other health benefits for me

I am thankful that I breastfed my first child, as I have gone on to feed my other two children. When I had my son in May of last year, I noticed that there is more of a push for mothers to breastfeed. My hospital was very breastfeeding friendly. I didn't want my son to have any formula while in the hopsital; however, I had a c-section and it was a rough start for me. I was producing colostrum but it seemed like my baby couldn't get enough to eat. Therefore, he wasn't sleeping much and I felt as if he was constantly on the boob. And at that point I decided to give him a little bit of formula to hold him over. This helped so that we could all get a little bit of sleep, considering you don't get much to begin with the hospital. It wasn't the end of the world for me to meet his need; however, that is the only formula that my baby has had in 8 months.

Using My Medela Pump In Style to Pump Milk for My Baby While I Am at Work

I returned to work when my son was 2 months old, this was hard but I had to go back in order to provide for my family. I have become quite acquainted with my breast pump. Pumping was a new adventure for me as a mother. With my other two kids, I had a manual breast pump since I stayed at home with them. I invested in a Medela Pump in Style breast pump.

Pumping for me was awkward at first, but it has been a rewarding experience. I have been able to continue feeding my son breast milk while he is at daycare. I was worried at first when I returned to work that I wouldn't be able to produce enough milk. However, I have been able to keep up with his demands and have extra milk handy for emergencies.
